How KiskSec Works

Public Visibility Review

KiskSec reviews publicly visible digital signals (such as domain and email configuration indicators) that are already accessible on the open internet. No systems are accessed and no credentials are requested.

Short Self-Assessment

Participants complete a brief, plain-language questionnaire covering essential cyber readiness areas such as account hygiene, backups, and update practices.

Readiness Snapshot

KiskSec provides a non-binding readiness snapshot highlighting strengths, common gaps, and practical, low-cost improvement opportunities. This is not a score, audit, or certification.

Privacy-First by Design

Only minimal information is used. Results remain private unless the participant chooses otherwise.

About Us

Kisk is a digital services company focused on building practical, accessible tools that help small and micro-businesses navigate common technology and operational challenges. Its work emphasizes clarity, affordability, and responsible use of technology, with particular attention to the realities faced by organizations with limited time, staff, or in-house technical expertise. This approach supports incremental digital transformation by enabling informed, proportionate decisions rather than one-size-fits-all solutions.

Through ongoing work and direct observation, Kisk identified a recurring gap in how small businesses approach cybersecurity awareness and preparedness, particularly in Atlantic Canada. Many organizations recognize that cybersecurity plays an important role in business continuity and SME resilience, but lack a clear, accessible way to understand where they currently stand. Without an initial point of reference, it can be difficult for organizations to determine which approaches—ranging from self-directed improvements to professional support or formal cybersecurity programs—are appropriate for their specific context.

In response to this need, Kisk created KiskSec as a community-benefit initiative designed to provide an initial orientation rather than a definitive assessment. KiskSec offers free, non-binding cyber readiness insights through a privacy-respecting assessment that helps organizations form an approximate understanding of their current exposure and baseline practices. The assessment focuses on publicly observable indicators and self-reported information and does not require credentials, system access, or the installation of software.

KiskSec is informational in nature and is not a security audit, certification, or compliance evaluation. Rather than replacing formal cybersecurity programs, it is intended to support informed decision-making by helping organizations better understand their starting point and the range of actionable options available to them, without prescribing specific actions, services, or vendors.

By lowering barriers to awareness and understanding, KiskSec aims to contribute—at a community level—to improved preparedness among small businesses. Over time, this supports broader goals related to SME resilience and regional economic growth, while respecting participant privacy, autonomy, and choice. KiskSec is intended to remain freely available as a community-benefit resource.
